Boy,16, remanded over N2.8m theft

A 16-year-old teenager, Abiodun Jimoh has been remanded at Juvenile correctional centre for allegedly stealing N2.8m building materials.

The defendant was arraigned in an Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly committing the offence on October 14, 2022 at 10:30pm at Alagbaka in Akure.

The police prosecutor, Adeoye Adesegun told the court that the teenager stole 16mm, 12mm and 10mm iron rods valued N2,700 and a bag of four inches nail valued N14,500

Adeoye said the defendant also stole one bag of two inches nail valued N16,000 and 200 yards of American roll of water hose valued N60,000.

He stated further that the defendant also stole cooking pots and shovel valued  at N6, 500,  total valued at N2, 811, 500, property of one Pastor Tunde Akinola 

The offence committed is contrary to and punishable under sections 516, 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1Laws of Ondo State Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant who worked as a generator repairer is standing trial on two counts, pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

Counsel to the defendant, Chief Leonard Olaoye prayed the court to admit his client to bail in most liberal terms.

Magistrate Olanipekun Mayomi in his ruling, remanded the defendant at Juvenile home pending  advice from the DPP.

He, thereafter, adjourned the case till January 4, 2023 for advice from  the DPP.
