Drunken driver kills four soldiers in Lagos

No fewer than four soldiers have been feared dead after a suspected drunken driver rammed into them during their monthly road jogging exercise outside the barracks in the early hours of Friday.

The soldiers, who were attached to the Myoung Barracks in the Morocco area of Shomolu, Lagos, were going about their usual morning routine when the tragic incident occurred.

Eyewitnesses revealed that the vehicle, a Toyota, was driven by three young men, who were reportedly speeding before crashing into the soldiers.

The impact of the collision was severe, with four soldiers feared dead and several others injured.

Priscilla, an eyewitness who resides in the area, shared her account with newsmen, explaining how the young men attempted to flee the scene after the accident but were apprehended.

She stated that the men were mercilessly beaten by the soldiers and their vehicle was vandalised.

According to Priscilla, one of the young men was also stabbed during the altercation.

“The incident happened in the early hours of this morning when the soldiers were doing their monthly morning road walk when the young men rammed into the soldiers in front of the barracks,” Priscilla explained.

“Four of the soldiers were dead, and many of them were seriously injured. After the incident, the boys attempted to run away but were apprehended and mercilessly beaten to a stupor while their vehicle was vandalised. Also, one of the boys was allegedly stabbed by the soldiers.”

The incident has caused panic among residents in the area, as they expressed concerns over their safety following the violent confrontation.

As of the time of filing this report, Olabisi Ayeni, the Deputy Director of Army Public Relations for the 81 Division, and Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, had yet to respond to messages sent to their phones.
