The headquarters of the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) in Ondo town have been barricaded by youths from the community.
They are protesting against the electricity distribution company’s poor services to the community.
The youths under the umbrella of Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress (OEYC) which is the umbrella body for all youths in the community stormed the company’s headquarters located along Brigadier Ademulegun road, Ondo as early as 7:00 am on Monday.
The Youths were led by the youth president of Ondo town, Engr Kayode Folajogun and other prominent leaders of Ondo Ekimogun Youths Congress (OEYC) in the community to ensure the closure of the headquarters.
According to information gathered by our reporter, the Youths are protesting against the poor power supply, neglect of streets where cables and poles were destroyed by a rainstorm since May, refusal to energize transformers, exorbitant billing
Officers of the Nigeria Civil Defense Corps and other security agencies were at the scene of the protest to forestall breakdown of law and order.
The company’s headquarters has been sealed by the yourhs and the protest is gathering momentum as at the time of filing this report.
