A 27-year-old bricklayer, Bayo Mamukuyomi has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ondo town, for unlawful assault on one Ugwu Ejimi.
The police brought Mamukuyomi before the court on a one-count charge of assault on the complainant, by forcefully fighting with her in the bush.
Mamukuyomi was alleged to have hit the complainant, Ejimi, with fist blow and used knife to inflict injuries on her three fingers.
Police prosecutor, Mr Bernard Olagbayi said the convict committed the offence on October 2, 2023, at Oke-Ayo camp via Ondo.
The charge read in part,” That you, Mamukuyomi Bayo on October 2,2023, at about 11am, at Oke-Ayo camp via Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial District, did unlawfully assault one Ugwu Ejimi, with your fist blow and inflicted injury on her three fingers with a knife and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 355 of the Criminal Code Cap. 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge against him.
Olagbayi prayed the court to sentence the convict according to his plea.
Chief Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, found the defendant guilty and convicted him accordingly.
Adeyanju, however, sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment with an option of N50,000 fine.
