Brothers, wives in court for assaulting police officer

Two siblings, Festus Olowofusi, Sunday Olowofusi and their wives,  Philora Olowofusi and Lydia Olowofusi, have been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrates’  Court for assaulting a police officer.

The defendants were brought to court on three counts bothering on felony and assault.

According to the prosecution, the defendants committed the offence on April 17, 2023 at 11pm in Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifo told the court that the accused persons  conspired  to assault one Sunday Olajide, a police officer, by holding him and giving  him fist blows all over his body, after which they tore his cloth while on  duty.

He also alleged that the defendants attacked the victim and  damaged  the side mirror of his Toyota Camry car with number plate WEN 13 AA, valued at about N50,000.

The offences contravene Section 516, 351, 451 of the criminal code Cap. 37 Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Usifo, therefore sought for an adjournment to enable him study the case file

The defence counsel, Mr V. A. Akinfe did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant the accused person bail in most liberal terms

In his ruling, Senior Magistrate, D. O. Ogunfuyi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000  with two sureties in like sum.

He ordered the  remand of the defendants at the Ondo female Correctional Centre in Okitipupa, pending the perfection of their bail.

He adjourned the case till May 15, 2023 for trial.
