Build capacity, AAUA VC counsels administrators
The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, has advised the senior administrative staff of the institution to be committed to building capacities.
Prof. Ajibefun, who gave the advice, while declaring open, a one-day workshop organized by the AAUA chapter of the Association of Nigerian University Professional Administrators, (ANUPA), also counselled all administrators in the University to embrace electronic registry to ensure prompt service delivery.
The VC, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Prof. Francis Gbore, said, “I want to urge those of you who had acquired professional skills over the years to begin to replicate such in all your endeavours, while you too should also strive hard to update your skills in tandem with the 21st century ways of engagement and working.
“In addition to that, I want to challenge ANUPA to think of e-registry at this workshop in order to key into the vision of making administrative staff to be 21st Century compliant. Achieving this, I believe, will enhance your service delivery.”
While commending ANUPA’s efforts at training and retraining of its members, the VC said the initiative was a complement to the Varsity’s regular training of its staffers through various platforms both within and outside the country.
He noted, “What is more, distinguished administrators, at the Management level, we will continue to give adequate attention to training and retraining of our staffers such that they could be at par with their colleagues globally.”
The VC emphasized the importance of administrators to the uplift of the University, saying, “Without mincing words, the academics are often helpless and distracted, when they do not have competent, experienced or dependable administrators to manage their processes and functions beyond teaching in the classroom and conducting research in the laboratories.
Earlier, Mr. Ganiyu Saliu, a Deputy Registrar (Human Resources and Development) from University of Ibadan, in his lecture, titled, “Structure and Governance of 21st Century University: The Registry in Perspective”, stressed that governance and administrative structure of universities are crucial to varsities’ development adding that a truly professional Administrator must imbibe the virtues of friendliness, fairness and firmness.
In his remarks, the Chairman of ANUPA, Mr. Razaq Owamoyo, thanked the University Management for its support to the association and appreciated the Planning Committee under The Chairmanship of Mr. Tope Famuti for organizing a befitting workshop.
