Business man faces fraud charges

A 54-year – old business man, Eniola Ogunbodede has been dragged before an Akure Magistrate’s Court charged with fraud.
The police brought the defendant on a two count charge of fraud and obtaining the money under false pretense.
The charge read: “That you Eniola Ogunbodede on August 19,2016 at about pm at Akure in Akure magisterial Districts did Obtain the sum of Two million four hundred and Eighty thousand Naira (N2,480,000,00) from one Saliu Shittu Olarewaju with pretense of buying him Lexus E35 2010 model car from Canada but failed to buy it.
“That you Eniola Ogunbodede at the same date, time and place did converted the sum of N2, 480, 000,00) money belonging to Mr Saliu Shittu Olarewaju to purchase a vehicle for him which he failed to purchase.
The offences were said to be contrary to and punishable under section 419,383 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 and 390 laws of Ondo State 2006.
The police prosecutor, Omhenimhen Augustine told the court that he intended calling two witnesses in the case.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Olumide Ogunleye urged the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal term saying the offence said to been committed was bailable one.
The trial magistrate, O.R Yakubu, however, admitted the accused to bail with the sum of N1million with two sureties in like sum who must be resident in Akure.
The magistrate Yakubu told the accused that she is not asking him to bring one Million naira to the court but that his sureties must worth the amount for his bail.
She therefore adjoined the case to September, 16,2010 for continuation of hearing.
