CAC Grammar School wins secondary
school football scouting competition

CAC Grammar School, Akure, has defeated Elu Iju Comprehensive high school, Iju Itaogbolu 1-0 to emerge champion  of Akure South, Akure North Public & Private Secondary school Male Football Scouting Competition.

This is just as Saint Daniel College, Akure thrashed Estate High school Akure 3-0 to end the competition as third place winner.

The final match of the Public & Private Secondary school Male Football Scouting Competition played at the Ondo State Sports complex Akure, witnessed display of raw talents from the students.

The sponsor of the competition, Mr Olarewaju Dennid Ojo in a chat with newsmen, said the competition was organised by L&B Sports Academy in conjunction with Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to catch the students young.

He disclosed that 27 Secondary schools participated in the competition from both Akure South and Akure North local governments.

He reiterated that the aims of the competition was to discover good football players among the school children at a tender age, saying it will enable them to adapt quickly to the basics of the round leather game.

Ojo added, that they have identified many outstanding players among the students in the competition ,which he said would be monitored for grooming .

He said: We decided to contribute our quota to the development of football in Ondo State knowing that government can’t do it alone ,so that is why we decided to come in and help the students to achieve their goal of becoming professional footballers in future.

The chairman of Ondo State Football Association (FA) and Executive member of Nigeria Football Federation NFF, Otunba Sunday Dele- Ajayi commended the sponsor and the school principals for their supports in creating a brighter future for the kids.

He charged other private individuals to take a cue from the sponsor of the competition and join hands with the government to develop sports in the state.

He said: “This is the best time to discover these children, football are being played by young men nowadays, we should all come out to help the children discover their skills with more grassroots football competitions, he said. “
