CAF postpones CHAN to August 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the postponement of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, originally slated to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, to August 2025.

CAF, in a statement, attributed the decision to the need for additional time to ensure the readiness of infrastructure and facilities in the host countries.

Despite significant progress in the construction and upgrading of stadiums, training fields, hotels, and hospitals, CAF’s Technical and Infrastructure experts advised that more work is required to meet the necessary standards for hosting the championship.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe commended the leadership of Kenyan President William Ruto, Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, and Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni for their commitment to the event’s preparation.

He expressed optimism that the required infrastructure will be ready to deliver a successful tournament by August 2025.

The draw for the championship will take place in Nairobi on Wednesday, 15 January 2025, at 8 PM. CAF is expected to announce the exact dates for the tournament in due course.
