A 50 -year-old car dealer, Fisayo Betiku, has been remanded in Segede correctional home in Ondo, for allegedly stealing  one Toyota Camry worth N2,200,000.

The magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, gave the order when the defendant was brought before the court on one-count charge of stealing  a Toyota Camry car.

According to the prosecution, the defendant stole the car  with chassis No: 4TIBEH6K970013807 property of One Valentine Okoch 2019 at No, 5 Omimode lane yaba, Ondo in the Ondo Magisterial  District.

The alleged offence contravenes Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

The prosecutor, inspector Benard Olagbayi, drew the attention of the Court to the fact that the defendant had not been coming to court for other cases levelled against him.

He, therefore prayed the court to remand him in prison custody so that the defendant would  be able to stand his trial.

Lawyer for  the defendant, Mr S. A Iluyemi, did not oppose the remand application made by the prosecutor.

Magistrate Adeyanju, therefore granted the  prosecutor’s application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in prison custody.

She, however, adjourned the case till February 6, 2023 for hearing.
