Pandemonium broke out at the chaotic Iyana Mortuary area of Abeokuta on Thursday afternoon, triggering a huge stampede from fear-stricken members of the public, who ran helter-skelter, believing another cash-fuel scarcity riot had erupted.
It was learnt that the pandemonium was triggered by machete and bottles -wielding two young men suspected to be commercial motorcycle operators, who chased some students of the Ogun State Government Technical College into the road as they were going home after closing hour.
The Hope Metro learnt that the commercial motorcycle riders and the students had unresolved issues which led to a fight.
There was confusion and apprehension as they hurled stones and broken bottles at people fleeing in different directions. At least two persons fell into the dry drainages in the process and suffered bruises.
Shops and offices along the Iyana mortuary junction hurriedly closed because of the situation, only to reopen later when normalcy returned
