The Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, Akure has donated some gift items worth thousand of naira to the inmates at the medium security prison, Olokuta in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The Parish Priest of the Church, Rev.Father Matthew Ologun who led catechists, leaders and some other members of the church on the visit admonished the inmates to transform into better people while in the prison.
According to him, the visit is to share with them the joy of Easter and also encourage them to have hope that they can still harness their God-given potentials when they leave the prison.
The Priest assured them that God has not forgotten them and he is always ready to help them if only they repent and hold on to their faith.
“Never think God cannot help you, he is always ready to help. Whatever might have brought you here and no matter how many months or years you have spent here ,it is not the end of the world.
“Always pray and appreciate God at every given opportunity, ask for forgiveness and cooperate with the officers here, we will continue to remember you in our prayers”,he stressed.
Welcoming the visitors on behalf of the Deputy Controller General of Prison Service, Superintendent Joshua Olawale thanked the church for the kind gesture, praying that God will grant them the kingdom of heaven they are working towards.
Olawale affirmed that the passion of the Catholic community towards the less privileged cannot be forgotten.
An immate who spoke on behalf of others commended the church for the words of encouragement noting that they are happy that they have not been forgotten by the society.
He informed that many of them have turned a new leaf in the prison and will never go back to their old ways.
