Despite the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, directive on the old naira notes, there’s chaos in the banking sector as Nigerians were unable to get both the old and new naira notes from their respective banks.

The apex bank had last week validated the use of the old N500 and N1000 naira notes till December 31, 2023.

In Akure metropolis, The Hope gathered that customers struggled to gain access into the banking hall and those who succeeded were unable to get money from the counter.

The ATM galleries were always filled up as early as 6am.

Residents who spoke on the hardship encountered while trying to have access to their money said, they are hopeful the naira scarcity would end after Saturday’s elections.

They pleaded with apex bank to make enough money available for commercial banks.
