Cultural disparity between two major ethnic groups in the country may keep a murder suspect in Akure, Ondo State behind bars for a long time, The Hope Metro investigation has revealed.
Already, the murder suspect, Mr Saliu Ladayo 24, is rotting in jail at Olokuta prison for not honoring a deal to marry the corpse of his girl friend whom he allegedly murdered during a fracas eight months ago.
Relations of 19 years old Miss Chidiebere Confidence Nwamma had insisted that the lover boy must marry her corpse in their home town in Imo State before her burial.
The Hope Metro learnt that the murder suspect had initially agreed to marry the corpse in compliance with traditional rites suggested by relations of Nwamma but later spurned the agreement for fear of the unknown.
Informed sources said the lover boy refused to honour the agreement because the marriage arrangement was alien to his culture.
The source said the Nwamma family had stuck to their guns that the corpse of Chidebere would not be buried until his lover boy agrees to do so.
The mother of the deceased, Mrs Lovelyn Nwamma said the family has softened on the conditions given to Saliu. According to her, we have monetized the rites but the family of the lover boy has not shown up
“We were told the parents of the boy lives in Lagos while the boy lives with his uncle in Akure.
“We have asked them to bring money to go and perform the rites without them, but they have not shown up while the corpse of our daughter is still lying in mortuary for eight months.
The murder case comes up on January 15, this year.
