A Prophetess, Folashade Kikiowo Adekola, has been arrested in connection with the death of a baby and her 28-year old mother, Jumoke Adesuwa, who allegedly bled to death from complications during childbirth in a church.
According to the police, Adekola, the Pastor-in-Charge of Christ Engracing Deliverance Ministry, Off Ilupeju Street, Oke-Aro area of Akure, was arrested after the deceased’s brother reported the matter at Oke Aro Police Station.
It was learnt that Adesuwa left her house for days, to the church for spiritual incarceration towards her delivery, without her husband’s knowledge.
The Hope Metro gathered that the baby died on Wednesday immediately after delivery while the woman bled to death in an undisclosed hospital due to childbirth complications after her family’s futile efforts to save her life.
A family source who pleaded anonymity revealed that the deceased’s husband, Ayodele Adesuwa, had earlier given her money to register at any government hospital. But she did not tell her husband when she left the house for five days to the church, for spiritual incarceration towards her delivery.
“The husband of the deceased came from the farm in Idanre after five days away from home and asked for his wife. So, one of the neighours told him that she had left for church to be delivered of a baby.
“Someone from the church called in the evening to inform him that his wife has been delivered of a baby. The deceased’s husband called me and we rushed to the said church called ‘Muzuzo’ at Oke-Aro.
“When we got there, we were told that the baby died in the process, but the mother was alive. On sighting the deceased, we saw her in a pool of blood bleeding profusely. So, we rushed her to a nearby hospital.
“Due to the worst condition of the deceased, she was rejected at three hospitals and she died in the process of reviving her in the last hospital that admitted her.
“To our surprise, we got to the church to collect the baby’s remains and we found the corpse in a room in the church. The condition of the room was very worrisome as it does not look like a delivery room.
“We approached the Oke-Aro Police station in Akure to report the case which led to the arrest of the prophetess in charge. The remains of the woman has been deposited at the mortuary,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, When contacted on Friday, confirmed the death of the woman and her infant.
The PPRO said the prophetess was arrested and taken to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, (SCIID).
She said the case was reported by the deceased’s brother, that Adesuwa died after childbirth in the church, adding that discreet investigation is still ongoing.
