Children’s Day: LG boss, Ajana tasks pupils on discipline, condemns bullying in schools

…Says Aiyedatiwa committed to child-centred policies

As Nigeria marked the 2025 Children’s Day celebration, the Executive Chairman of Akoko South West Local Government Area, Ayo Ajana, has charged schoolchildren to embrace good conduct, shun bullying and other forms of misconduct and uphold values that will make them responsible citizens.

Ajana, who made the call at a commemorative event held at African Church Grammar School, Oka-Akoko, urged pupils and students to be kind, respectful and disciplined in their interactions, stressing the need for character development alongside academic excellence.

In a statement signed by his media aide, Momoh Jawad Oladeji, Ajana noted that children represent the future of the country and as such, must be nurtured in an environment that promotes empathy, integrity and civic responsibility.

According to him, bullying and similar behaviours not only harm the affected individuals but also disrupt the overall peace and productivity of the school system.

“Our children are the foundation of our national progress. We must create learning environments that are safe, inclusive, and supportive. Bullying, in any form, is unacceptable and must be eradicated to allow every child thrive,” he said.

The local government boss appealed to parents, teachers and school authorities to work in synergy to foster school settings where every child feels secure and valued.

He also advocated for the strict implementation of anti-bullying policies as well as the provision of counselling services for affected pupils.

While commending schoolchildren across Akoko South West for their resilience, passion for learning and commitment to excellence, Ajana reaffirmed the commitment of Ondo State Governor, His Excellency, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, to the well-being and development of children across the state.

He said the current administration has continued to prioritise child-centred policies through sustained investments in education, healthcare, and child protection initiatives.

Highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to winners of the inter-school marching parade. Ajana presented prizes to the schools that emerged first, second, and third in the competition in recognition of their outstanding performances.

He congratulated the participants and urged all children in Akoko South West and across the country to remain focused, respectful and worthy ambassadors of the Nigerian nation.

The event was well attended by pupils, teachers, parents and local government officials, who gathered to celebrate the children and reaffirm their collective responsibility to their growth and protection.
