Children’s Day: Okitipupa, Irele LG chairmen pledge commitment to children’s welfare

By Victor Akinkuolie, Okitipupa
The Chairman of Okitipupa Local Government area of Ondo State, Mr. Andrew Ogunsakin, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to the welfare of children in the area.
Similarly, his counterpart from Irele Local Government, Deacon Olajide Akinfe, expressed his administration’s readiness to prioritise the welfare of children in the local government.
The duo spoke at separate events in Okitipupa and Irele towns on Tuesday during the celebration of the 2025 edition of Children’s Day, held across the state.
The council chairmen emphasised that the importance of youths’ contributions to national development cannot be overemphasised, noting that they are the future leaders who will inherit the mantle of leadership from the current generation.
They stressed the need for governments at all levels to initiate sound programmes and policies that would help children realise and develop their full potential.
The duo also called for synergy between government, parents, non-governmental organisations, and religious bodies to ensure these objectives are realised.
Describing the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in the state as a caring one, the chairmen disclosed plans by the state and local governments to implement more people-oriented programmes aimed at addressing the needs of youths in the state.
They listed such programmes as talent hunts, children’s parliament, football competitions, school debates, career talks, and guidance sessions, among others.
The council chairmen, however, advised children and youths to reciprocate the government’s efforts by refraining from cultism, examination malpractice, drug abuse, indecent dressing, and other social vices capable of jeopardising their future aspirations.
The chairmen of Okitipupa and Irele Local Governments used the occasion to seek greater cooperation and support from parents in the task of training their children and wards.
They assured parents of the Aiyedatiwa-led administration’s readiness to implement more child-friendly programmes, as demonstrated by various health and education initiatives already established across the state.
The Children’s Day celebration featured activities such as a march past by pupils from both public and private primary and secondary schools in the two local governments, cultural dances, and the presentation of gifts, among others.
