A religious leader, Rev John Ayo Oladapo has called on christian minded Nigerians to dabble into politics in order to show worthy leadership to others.

He made the call during an interview with The Hope in Akure.

Oladapo said christians who are desirous of participating in politics should also show keen interest in seeking elective offices.

Doing so, he explained will ensure that wrong people are not elected into positions of authority

The cleric said that their participation in politics is scriptural and supported by the Bible, describing their participation in politics as shinning light in darkness.

He encouraged them not to allow sharp practices like godfatherism, monetisation of electoral processes and fetish practices among others to prevent them from taking part in politics.

“We are praying that we will get to a level where there will not be godfatherism in politics, monetisation of electoral processes and fetish practices in election.”

According to him, it is the responsibility of religious leaders to educate people on their rights and what is expected of them, adding that they should take it upon themselves in admonishing their members to be law abiding in following the rules and regulations that govern politics.

His words: “They are also to encourage their members to shun politics of bitterness and play politics according to the rules.”

He, therefore, enjoined christians to take cue from the forefathers that brought religion and politics to the nation without bitterness.
