Christmas: Shun corruption, injustice, Ondo CAN Chairman counsels Nigerians
Christians have been called to serve as beacons of hope, radiating the light of Christ in a world overshadowed by darkness.
This message was delivered by the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State chapter, Reverend Father Anselm Olorunfemi Ologunwa, in his 2024 Christmas address.
Speaking on the theme: “Hope in the Lord Amidst the Corruption and Injustice of Our World Today,” Reverend Father Ologunwa implored Christians, Muslims, and adherents of other faiths not to lose hope despite the harsh realities of corruption, injustice, and inequality.
“As we celebrate the birth of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, I bring you warm greetings and felicitations on behalf of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Ondo State chapter. In this season of joy and celebration, we are reminded of the hope that Jesus brings to our world,” he stated.
In a message delivered through the CAN Director of Information and Communications, Daisi Ajayi, the chairman lamented that the world, created in justice and by the wisdom of God, has become plagued by corruption, injustice, and darkness through the actions of humankind.
Reflecting on the spiritual conflict between light and darkness, Reverend Father Ologunwa emphasised the importance of God’s purpose in creating humanity.
He encouraged Christians to remember that salvation comes from the Lord, whom he described as the stronghold in times of trouble.
The CAN Chairman urged Christians to cultivate the theological virtues of faith, hope, and love as they embark on their spiritual journey towards God.
“Hold on to the hope that Jesus brings—a hope that transcends the corruption and injustice of our world. Stand for righteousness even in the face of adversity,” he said.
Father Ologunwa further encouraged Christians to demonstrate the love of Christ to those around them, quoting 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: “Love that is patient, kind, and compassionate.”
He also charged the faithful to be people of integrity, transparency, and accountability. Nigerians, he said, must endure the challenges and hardships of life, noting that through prayer, they would overcome.
“We must remember that our Lord Jesus Christ endured the cross for our sake and won the race (Hebrews 12:2-3),” he reminded.
As Christians celebrate the birth of Jesus, Reverend Father Ologunwa called for a reflection on the true meaning of Christmas; love, mercy, and the redemption Jesus brought to the world.
The CAN Chairman prayed that the season would foster harmonious relationships among Muslim brothers and sisters and adherents of other faiths, as the nation strives for peace, harmony, and understanding.
