‘Civil servants collecting bribe are criminals’
Any civil servant who collects bribe as a condition for processing workers’ gratuities is a criminal that must be brought to book.
This is the submission of the pioneer Chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress in Ondo State, Pastor Oyekan Arije while featuring as a guest on The Hope Platform.
He said that though he didn’t experience such dastard act while processing his gratuity having collected, he however said if anybody had tried that with him, such, he said, would not have gone scot free.
“People who collect bribe from retirees before processing their gratuities are criminals. If anybody tries it with me, such will not go unpunished. I will give such a person marked money to ensure that he is prosecuted. It is a very sad thing if it is happening.”
On the crisis which rocked the state Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo recently, Arije who was the Chairman of the panel of enquiry set up to look into the matter, said that the management of the institution allowed dichotomy to affect their focus.
He submitted that leading up to that crisis, less than 20 percent of the entire student population had paid fully their school fees.
The veteran labour leader suggested a good social security for the aged as being practised in the developed world.
On his views on different economic systems, Arije said the capitalist will not allow socialism to thrive.
