Clean environment, our priority – ODSG

Ondo State Government has reiterated its commitment towards maintaining a healthy environment just as it promised to always ensure a clean state.
Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Prophet Akin Asaniyan made this known while addressing journalists shortly after monitoring the state July monthly sanitation exercise in Akure.
According to him, government is doing the needful to ensure that the state is ranked among the neatest states in the country noting that it will not hesitate to deal with anyone who tries to frustrate such effort.
While frowning at the level of waste dumped along highways in the state especially Akure, he called on residents to embrace proper waste disposal in order to free the state from any disease outbreak.
General Manager, Ondo State Waste Management Authority, Rev(Mrs) Ayo Adeyemo while speaking during the exercise cautioned illegal park operators against littering the environment with waste noting that failure to comply will lead to their relocation to the main park and added that they should provide prescribed dustbin for their vehicles.
Along Oyemekun road, Adeyemo scolded an official of one of the PSP handling waste in the state, ZL Global Alliance for illegal parking and dumping of waste on the walkway noting that the company should do the needful to ensure cleanliness in the state.
Earlier, she berated the dirty environment of a church, Salvation Ministries, noting that churches should keep clean environment as cleanliness is next to godliness.
Speaking with The Hope, she commended the high level of compliance of residents despite non restriction of both human and vehicular movement and advised that they continue in that spirit.
Adeyemo who revealed that some houses in Akure have been sealed for being unfit for human habitation saying ‘they remain sealed until things are put in place.”
Chairman, Committee on Waste Management, Mr. Kehinde Badejo explained that the committee is working on redelination to ensure total cleanliness in the state.
According to him, more PSPs will be injected into the system to ensure the best in terms of cleanliness in the state noting that government cannot do it alone.
He commended the efforts of the PSPs in charge of waste collection in the state who have been up and doing and charged those who have not been up to the task to buckle up in order not to be shown the way out.
Places visited by the team include; oba Adesida road down to Ilesha garage, Aule – oke ogba, hospital road – high court road, Oke Ijebu – plaza area down to ayedun among others.
