Cleric docked over N1.5m fraud

An Ibadan-based cleric, Sherrif Salam Adesina, is currently standing trial before an Odigbo Magistrate Court for duping a man the sum of N1,500,000, under a false pretence.
The 39-year-old cleric was arraigned on three counts of conspiracy, and fraudulently obtaining money by giving false vision to man, Mr. Babatunde Isiaka
The prosecutor, Inspector James Usifoh told the court that the defendant had on May 11, 2019 at about 11.30am at No 51, Adebayo street in Ore conspired and fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,500,000 from the complainant, Isiaka.
He said the defendant collected the money by telling the compliant a negative vision to create fear in him that he was going to die within a short time.
Usifoh said the offence contravened sections 422, 382 (2), 419, 383 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
But the accused, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Counsel to the defendant, Mr. Victor Akinfe, urged the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mr T.J Ajayi, granted the accused bail in the sum N1,000,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must be a civil servant or responsible person with landed property.
