Cleric urges politicians to refrain from violence

The Chief Imam of Allahu Waheed Central Mosque, Lotogbe, Ondo, Alhaji Abdrafiu Ajiboye has urged political parties and their candidates to refrain from act that may incite violence among their followers.

Ajiboye gave the advice during a peace meeting he held with some political parties candidates contesting for the House of Representatives in Ondo East /West federal constituency.

He said peace is the basis for development and called on Nigerians on the need to love one another in order to have better tomorrow.

The cleric, who is also the chairman of Attanzil Islamic Foundation said the peace meeting was important as religious leaders have vital roles to play in ensuring the success of the shifted polls.

He admonished the candidates to accept the outcomes of the elections in good faith in other to prevent post election violence and reminded them to have faith in God as only one can enthrone person into position.

The imam also appeal to the politicians to restrain their supporters from provocative cult killing in the kingdom .

In his reaction , candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ondo East/East federal constituency, Mr. Jibayo Adeyeye , expressed his gratitude for the peace meeting and promised to abide by the rules guiding the electoral exercise and assured the people of the kingdom of his good representation.

On his part, the candidate of African Action Congress, Otunba Ade Adeniyi assured the readiness of his supporters to maintain peace before, during and after the elections.

Other candidates present include Mr.Joseph Akinlaja of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP),  Mr. Abiola Makinde of African Democratic Congress among others.
