CNPP condemns spate of political violence

By Saheed Ibrahim

The Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP in Ondo state has condemned the incessant political violence in the state ahead of the October 10 gubernatorial election.
Speaking on behalf of the body, which has 40 political parties as members, the Chairman, Com. Rotimi Buoboye called on President Muhammadu Buhari, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and heads of security agencies in the country “to take immediate steps to discourage the legitimisation of violence and the destruction of our fledgling democracy”.
Also speaking at the press conference, the Chairman Zenith Labour Party in the state, Joseph Akinlaja expressed concern over high rate of violence in the state, emphasising the need for preventive measures to nip in the bud the likely repeat of 1983 political crisis in the state.
“If this is not nipped in the bud, it might lead to reprisal and we know Ondo state people are very sensitive to manipulation of their election wills and decisions”, Akinlaja noted.
The CNPP leadership however stated that the body has not adopted any candidate ahead of the governorship election in the state.
