COAS raises national security alert, seeks citizens’ cooperation, sacrifice

By Tola Gbadamosi

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has charged troops of the Nigerian Army to make necessary sacrifices to safeguard peace and security across the country.

Oluyede gave the charge while addressing troops of the 22 Armoured Brigade, Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, and the Nigerian Army College of Education, Ilorin. His remarks were contained in a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, in Abuja.

The Army Chief assured the troops of his commitment to improving their welfare, including the provision of better infrastructure in barracks, enhanced educational facilities for their children, improved medical services for their families, and the supply of essential kits and platforms to enable them to perform their duties effectively.

He noted that the troops’ Ration Cash Allowance was recently increased to motivate them to make greater sacrifices in maintaining national peace and unity.

“No meaningful development can take place without peace,” the COAS said, urging troops to stamp out all threats to national security and ensure that criminals have no foothold in Kwara State and beyond.

He reminded the troops that Nigerians are counting on them to keep the country safe, secure and united, adding that he remains fully committed to supporting them to achieve success in their assignments.

Earlier, the Commander of 22 Armoured Brigade, Brigadier General Ezra Barkins; Commandant of the Nigerian Army Institute of Science Education and Technology, Brigadier General Damian Dieke; and the Provost of the Nigerian Army College of Education, Brigadier General Chidi Echebiwe, in their separate briefings, outlined the activities and challenges of their respective formations.
