Commercial motorcyclists attack Police station, assault officers in Ondo
Commercial motorcyclists have attacked police officers at a station in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, accusing them of shielding a commercial driver responsible for a reckless driving incident that damaged a colleague’s motorcycle.
Sources claim the motorcyclists not only assaulted the officers but also seized the mobile phone of a senior police official at the station.
A senior police officer recounted that the motorcyclists had arrived at the station looking for a driver involved in a crash with a motorcyclist on Epinmi Road.
He explained: “We were in the station when we received a call about a fatal accident on Epinmi Road, and we immediately went there, transporting some victims to the hospital.”
“Soon after, we noticed a large crowd gathering at the station, demanding to see the driver involved in the accident. As we were addressing the situation, they used sticks to beat our officers and snatched a phone. Despite our efforts to control the situation, there were about 100 of them at the station.”
A second senior police officer confirmed that two of the assailants had been arrested.
The Olubaka of Oka, Oba Yusuf Adebori Adeleye, has condemned the attack, expressing concern over the violent incident at the police station.
