Amid the lingering communal crisis in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, the Executive Chairman, Honourable Taiwo Adegoroye, has appealed for peace and harmony between the warring communities, urging them to sheathe their swords.
Findings by Weekend Hope revealed that the conflict between the Koseru and Ikale communities has persisted for over three years, escalating tensions in the area.
Expressing concern over the continued clashes, Adegoroye lamented the situation, stressing the need for a lasting resolution.
He said, “During my campaign to the Koseru community, residents expressed their grievances, as suspected bandits invaded their community, looted their farm produce, and attacked residents of the community.
“One of my campaign promises to the people of the Koseru community is to end the long-standing rivalry between them and the Ikale community. I am ready to fulfil that promise.”
He disclosed that the state governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, had been briefed on the development and had directed the state’s security architecture to remain vigilant against individuals fuelling unrest in both communities.
Assuring the residents of Koseru that peace and order would soon be restored, Adegoroye emphasised the governor’s commitment to maintaining harmony in the state.
“The governor of our dear state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, is a man of peace and tranquillity who detests violence and injustice.
“Plans are underway to fish out the people behind the unnecessary clashes between the Ikale and Koseru communities.”
He, however, urged residents of both communities to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring them that “the situation is under control.”
