Community policing: Osun police harps on stakeholders active involvement

Osun State Police Command has restated the need to involve stakeholders in the security coverage in the state.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adie J. Undie disclosed this during a sensitization workshop on community policing in Osogbo.
The workshop was a continuation of giant strides of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu to actualize the goals of the improved and reinvigorated Community Policing Strategy.
Undie who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Finance and Administration DCP, Reis Obafunke reassured citizens of the state the command’s commitment to ensuring safety of lives and properties.
In his lecture, IGP Tafa Balogun (Rtd) who was the originator of the Community Policing in Nigeria enumerated the importance of the renewed Community Policing Strategy and the roles of the Police, Community Leaders/stakeholders/citizen, Traditional Rulers and the Government which he terms ‘Rectangular synergy’.
According to him, “it is the best way to go especially in this trying time that the country is facing security challenges.”
He stressed further that the EndSARS saga would have been averted if Community Policing principle is effective in the country.
In his address, Osun State Governor, Gboyega Isiaka Oyetola who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Mr Benedict Alabi, commended the security agencies in the state for making the state peaceful and emphasized the commitment of the State Government in supporting the Police to effectively discharge their duties.
He also urged the citizens to give prompt and useful information to the police to enhance their effectiveness and reduce crime to the barest minimum.
