Commuters groan over prices of fuel in Osun

Commercial and private car owners in Osogbo, the Osun State Capital yesterday lamented the unwarranted increase of pump prices of Premium Motor Spirit (fuel) in major parts of the city.

Our correspondent who monitored the situation leant that despite the availability of the petroleum products, most filling stations sells between #270 to 300 per liter .amidst long queue.

Most filling stations visited witnessed a long queue while those selling #300 and above per liter have little or no queue.

According to one of the mangers of Marix filling station at Aregbe area in Osogbo said any filling station selling between #180 or #200 per liter, there is always a significant queue while those selling at 300 per liter had little or no queue.

His words “As you can see it is because we are selling #180 per liter that is while you see a lot of queue in our filling station. But visit other filling station u will see a lot of vehicles queuing to buy petroleum into their vehicles.

Also speaking, Mr Jide Amowe, a commercial driver said I was at the filling station by 5am before they open but uptill 9am I have not been able to buy fuel because a lot of people where here before me . “This is suffering and I don’t know while fuel is always scared during every festive period. This he said is the fault of the government who are not sincere in addressing the issue for long.

Mr Kehinde idowu a civil servant hinted that he is already late to work due to significant long queue he met at the filling station saying despite they were selling at a high prices, people are still queuing to get the product adding that it’s unfortunate that fuel scarcity had becoming a reoccurring decimal.

He call on Government to find lasting solution to it especially as the economy worsening every day.

However, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps NSCDC has deployed their men to visit all the filling stations to ensure that there is no hoarding of the product.

The NSCDC spokesperson, Kehinde Adeleke told our correspondent that men of Anti-Vandals detectives have been deployed to monitor filling stations that are hoarding petroleum product from their numerous customers.
