Complaints as CVR ends

As yesterday was the last day of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Ondo State, citizens of the state , particularly residents of Akure trooped out to registration centres to get listed for the exercise at the weekend.
The exercise, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission had said would end on Sunday, June 9 (yesterday) after the extension of the CVR commenced on Monday ,May 27 and ended on Wednesday ,June 4,2024.
Following the appeals by stakeholders the commission had approved the extension of the exercise from Thursday, June 6 to Sunday, June 9, 2024 to enable eligible persons to register .
The duration of the exercise was extended from 9am to 5pm daily.
The commission had said that more machines would also be deployed to areas identified to have peculiar need such as difficult terrain or communal issues.
Residents who are 18 years and above who want to register, replace lost card or transfer their voting location trooped out on Saturday as the last two days of the extension for the exercise at some registration points which included Sacred Heart Primary School , Cathedral ,Akure, Gbogi/Isikan 1 ward; Town Hall,Oda, Oda ward; Aquinnas College, Akure; Ebenezer Primary School, Amudipe Street, Akure; and St Martin’s Primary School, Oke-Padi, Akure,
During our correspondence visits to these registration centres, there were crowds raising fears that many residents may not be registered.
It was gathered that the eligible residents of the Akure anxiously trooped out to get themselves registered two days to the end of the extension of the exercise.
They took the advantage of the extension to partake in the exercise as their number shoot up
Speaking with The Hope, a registrant at the Sacred Heart Primary School , Cathedral ,Akure, Gbogi/Isikan, Mr. Tope Awolope, lamented the failure of the process to get registered on time.
Awolope explained that he has been coming to the registration point to renew his lost voter’s card for a long time.
The Registration Officer at Sacred Heart Primary School , Cathedral ,Akure, at Gbogi/Isikan 1 ward; Seunfunmi Isaac, said people have been coming more than expectated as there was no problem and delay in the process.
“We are registering more than 50 people which showed that the registrants were turning out,” he said.
