Comply with COVID-19 protocols, Fatusi advises residents

Chairman, Ondo State Inter ministerial Committee on COVID-19, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi has called on residents to comply with the COVID-19 guidelines in order to achieve prompt eradication of the virus in the state.
He made the call during a monitoring exercise by the team to some event centres and religious places in Akure, the state capital.
According to him, it is important that people play their role in ensuring that the virus does not get comforted in the state and noted that government is relaxing the lock down for the interest of all.
While stressing the need for the use of nose masks in gatherings regular hand washing and maintaining social distancing among others, Fatusi who doubles as the Vice Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences, Ondo said that government is working assiduously to keep the virus out of the state.
He berated the lackadaisical attitude of some people in obeying the COVID-19 guidelines and explained that government will continue to enforce, sensitise and provide the needed materials for the prevention of the virus.
He specifically frowned at the rate at which people serve food at events noting that it is safer when the food is well packaged in takeaways for home consumption by guests.
He reminded the people that the state is yet to be freed from the virus saying “COVID-19 is reality as people have died of the disease and a lot are struggling to survive it.”
While expressing hope that the virus will soon leave the state, he enjoined the people to comply with the guidelines so as not to attract enforcement in doing the needful.
Earlier in one of the event centres visited, St Luke’s church event centre where a reception for a burial ceremony was taking place, Fasusi ordered those without face masks out of the hall in order to be given one by officials of government who were stationed outside the hall.
Addressing the people, he said that it is not government’s plan to disrupt their event but to ensure that the guidelines on COVID-19 are well followed so as to guarantee the state is free from the virus.
He stressed the need for proper wearing of the masks and maintenance of social distancing at events.
While expressing appreciation to the people for their cooperation, he urged organisers of events in the state to put in place the needed materials for the prevention of the virus at strategic places.
The team also visited St David’s Anglican Cathedral, Ijomu and St David’s Anglican Primary School where an events were taking places to give out face masks to those without it and also to sensitise the people on the need to embrace the guidelines on COVID-19.
Speaking with one of the guests who does not want her name in print, she commended government’s efforts at eradicating the virus in the state and stressed the need for people to maintain the COVID-19 protocols guiding events.
