lf the effort of government in agriculture will translate to food sufficiency and job creation, it must get the bio-data of every farmer and would be farmers in the country so that help can get to the real farmers.

This was the submission of Mr Seun Taiwo, owner of Perdue Farms in Akure.

According to him, most of the assistance being given by government do not get to the real farmers’ adding that even when it gets to them, it is those who are already established and have money to fund their business that have access to it.

Taiwo said registering the farmers and having their bio-data to the grassroots level will help government to disburse loans and give seedlings or whatever assistance to the right people.

” There must be a holistic approach to assistance being rendered by government. We only hear of loan and see it on television but it does not get to the real farmers.

“Government must put individuals into consideration when given out assistance as it is done in the civilised world. They must  know what individuals.   produce and how to assist them,” he said.

While saying agriculture is a way to go for Nigeria, Taiwo called on Federal Government to emulate countries like American, Britain among others in their approach.

According to him, these countries have industrial zones where all forms of farming activities are carried out adding that government will approach them whenever it wants to give assistance.

He added that government will offtake their products and sell at controlled price to the populace.

He described agriculture as interesting and lucrative and advised farmers especially youths who are just coming in to keep pressing harder saying that there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
