A 32-year-old contractor, Tunde Odetayo, has been arraigned  before an Odigbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged fraud.

The Ondo State Police Command arraigned the defendant before Magistrate Festus Akinlolu on a single charge.

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on August 2, 2024, at Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector James  Usifoh, told the court that the defendant fraudulently converted to his own use the sum of N570,000 from one Doris Peter, under false pretences to process and supply wood, which he failed to do, instead using the money for his own purposes.

The offence contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

When the charge was read, the defendant pleaded not guilty.

Usifoh, therefore, sought an adjournment to enable him to study the case file and prepare his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel, Mr V.A. Akinfe, did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor but requested that the court grant his client bail on the most liberal terms.

Magistrate Festus Akinlolu admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N600,000 with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until September 27, 2024, for hearing.
