Dividends of quality representation in governance have once again come to the fore as hundreds of residents of Owo were empowered with various items to further enhance their socio-economic well-being.
Beneficiaries of the items ranging from sewing machines, vulcanising machines, hair dryers, motorcycles and cash were drawn from the 11 political wards in the Owo Local Government area.
Speaking at the programme, the sponsor, Mr Olugbenga Ale who is the Chief of Staff to the Ondo State Governor, said affecting the lives of fellow compatriots positively have always been his utmost priority and as such, he would continue to give back to the society which nurtured him to stardom.
Ale distributed both cash and empowerment materials all worth N4.5 million to people in his ward, Isaipen in Owo Local Government.
He said the programme was organised to appreciate the electorate in Isaipen Ward 8, Owo, which gave Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN), the highest number of votes in the 2016 Ondo State Governorship election among the 203 Wards in the state.
Ale said, though his political ward is Isaipen Ward 8 which has the greater percentage of beneficiaries of the special empowerment programme, the remaining 10 wards also have 20 beneficiaries.
He explained that it had always been his interest to empower the people and make sure they were lifted from their poverty level.
“Empowerment has always been my hobby, even before I joined politics. We also want to appreciate them so that they can continue to be loyal to the party.
“This is also our way of saying thank you to the voters in this ward because they always deliver the highest votes.
“We are not only limiting it to this ward but considering other wards within the local government because they all contributed to our success”, he said.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Adekola Olawoye, SAN, described the sponsor as a philanthropist whose concerns for the wellbeing of his people have remained worthy of admiration.
Olawoye who said the beneficiaries were joyous and happy because something has been added to their lives to lift them up, enjoined them to vote APC in the February 16 general election to enable them benefit more empowerment.
Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Owo Local Government, High Chief Sydney Ogunleye said the APC is peopled by appointees who appreciate the electorate and that is why its policies are people-centred.
He lauded the gesture of Olugbenga Ale for the empowerment and expressed the belief that the electorate in Owo would vote maximally for President Muhammadu Buhari for the completion of the monumental projects which his administration has embarked upon.
Some beneficiaries of the empowerment programme who commended the kind gesture of the donor, described it as rare and that which would make them self-reliant.
According to Olanusi Ogedengbe, a Cobbler, who was one of the cash beneficiaries, he said he would use the money to acquire some shoe-making equipment that would enable him get more customers and expand his business.
Also, Ademola Ogunwuyi and Audu Idris who got Sewing machine and Motorcycle respectively, thanked the sponsor of the programme, saying they would ever support, remain loyal and committed to the success of the party.
