Stakeholders in child upbringing and development have been charged to synergise in creating enabling platform for young ones to launch into their pride of place and become worthy leaders of tomorrow.
The Caretaker Committee Chairman of Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, Mr. Oke Adebayo Benjamin made this call at the 2019 edition of National Children and Youth Day celebration at Owo Township Stadium.
According to him, the call became imperative following the current spate of kidnapping and other social vices rampaging the young world.
He expressed concern that the attitude of youths nowadays do not seem to justify the enviable positions they are being nurtured to occupy in the society.
While maintaining that the upbringing of children should be the collective responsibility of all stakeholders, Benjamin particularly called on parents to ensure proper upbringing of their children by paying less attention to material pursuits at their expense.
He advised on the need to prohibit war and crime films in their homes and ensure proper monitoring of their children to prevent bad association.
He said parents should be security conscious and protect their children in view of the high rate of kidnapping in the society in recent times.
He equally charged law enforcement agencies to play their part by providing adequate security for the citizenry, especially the more vulnerable ones.
He however noted that the government owes it a duty to ensure that the rights of the young ones are guaranteed as well as providing abundant opportunities to help them grow and realise their legitimate ambition.
