‘Count Akeredolu out of MPN’s petition’

Sequel to the Senator Ajayi Borrofices’ claim that Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu orchestrated the petition filed by the Mega Party of Nigeria, MPN, a human rights activist, Dr. Tunji Abayomi has described it as false.
Abayomi, who was also named alongside the governor as sponsors of the petition being a co-testant with Borrofice for Ondo North senatorial seat in the just concluded election, however affirmed that he truly supported the MPN petition.
According to him, as a human rights activist he has every right to support and provide help for anyone or groups whose rights is being infringed upon, claiming that the party sought his advice and he provided it.
“The governor has nothing to do with the petition at all. But with regard to me, if they came to me that they were excluded from the election, as a human rights activist, I will support them to fight for their rights , my believe is that people shouldn’t be excluded from participating in electoral processes.
“But it is false that the Governor was involved , but in terms of my support for that petition, yes.
Abayomi faulted the claim that the petition was filed without the consent of the MPN national chairman, saying ” how did they then get the document to file the petition if he claimed that the national leadership of the party wasn’t aware? The member of MPN in Ondo North senatorial district said they were excluded, it is not the national chairman, why do they need to carry him along? He is irrelevant to the issue.
“I spoke with him, he supported it and directed that those documents be delivered’.
He however condemned the action of Borrofices’ Lawyer and his campaign Director General, Mr. Tolu Babaleye on the withdrawal of the petition from the court without hearing notice of the deponent, and described it as a professional irresponsibility.
“You can see what is happening now, how can you have a situation where Senator Borrofice’s lawyer and director general is now the lawyer for the petitioner. What type of a nation are we running and what stardard of the professional responsibility and leadership are we pushing forward?
“The Lawyer for Senator Borroffice, without hearing notice to the deponent of the petition went to court 5pm on Saturday and withdrew the petition. What kind of nation are we running?
“Is it not embarrassing that the Lawyer for Senator Borroffice will be the Lawyer that will represent Mega Party to withdraw a petition without notice to the deponent?
“A Lawyer must stay away not only from impropriety but also appearance of it”, he said.
