From Sade Adewale

A 28-year-old farmer, Jude Ododo, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by an Ondo Magistrates’ Court for unlawfully assaulting one Akinrotimi Olumide with cutlass.
The convict committed the offence on October 24, 2019 at 10a.m. at Lomofe Camp via Ondo.
The prosecutor, Akao Moremi, told the court that the convict assaulted the complainant with cutlass which caused him open injury on his back with blood stain and also conducted himself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by using cutlass to injure people at the camp.
The offence contravened section 355 and 249(d) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.
The convict pleaded not guilty to the charge leveled against him.
The defence counsel, Mr Femi Akinbinu, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing his client.
He said the convict is a first offender and a family man with wife and newborn baby, while praying court to look graciously on the convict by giving an option of fine or a community service.
In his judgment, the Chief Magistrate, Mr Damilola Sekoni, however, found the defendant guilty of the offence and was convicted accordingly.
Sekoni sentenced him to one year imprisonment at Nigeria correctional service with an option of fine of N30,000 and also pay N30,000 as compensation to the complainant.
