Court grants accused N50,000 bail

An Ore Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State has granted a man, Sunday Likinyo, N50, 000 bail following his arraignment for allegedly obtaining N100,000 from a woman under false pretence.

The presiding magistrate, Mr T. J. Ajayi, gave the ruling after Likinyo Sunday was arraigned by the police on one-count charge of fraud.

29-year-old Likinyo , however, pleaded not guilty.

Ajayi also ordered Likinyo to produce two sureties in like sum and show evidence of tax payment, while he adjourned the case till July 2, 2019.

Earlier, the police prosecutor, Mr. Muideen Yekini,  alleged that Likinyo committed the offence on April 8, 2019, at about 10:50am at the back of Ehinmosan Street, Ore in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Yekini said the defendant fraudulently obtained the sum of N100,000 from one, Rachael Afolabi, under false pretence that he would use the money to purchase one Red Bajaj Boxer motorcycle with chassis no. MDZA19AY5KWK35914 and engine no. DUZWKK25341 for commercial purposes.

He said the  defendant promised to refund the said money within a month, but failed to fulfill his promise to the complainant.

According to him, the offence contravened section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 laws of 0ndo State of Nigeria, 2006.
