Court jails farmer for stealing

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday, sentenced a 26-year-old farmer, Promise Peter, to two months community service for stealing car parts.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Musa Al-Yunus, convicted and sentenced Peter who resides at Abusoro, Akure after the prosecution has proved the case of stealing levelled against him
Al-Yunus said community service must be conducted in a public place for four to six hours daily under the supervision of a section of the Olokuta Correctional Centre, adding that the punishment would have been severe if the convict had not pleaded guilty to the charge.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Nelson Akintimehin, told the court that the convict committed the offence at about 11pm on June 7 at Zone E Block 23 at Oba Afunbiowo Estate, Oke-Aro Akure
Akintimehin said that the convict trespassed one Mr. Vincent’s compound stole one engine injector valued at N20,000, compressor valued at N40,000 and one cylinder valued at N3000 total valued at N63,000 belonging the complainant.
The Prosecutor said convict while attempting to escape, was chased and arrested with the stolen item by the community security guard on duty and was handed over to police.
According to the charge, the offence contravene sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006
The convict who narrated how stole the items on his way to his farm, pleaded for mercy.
The Magistrate ordered him to observed the community service without an option of fine and warned him to desist from committing crimes
