An Ondo Magistrate Court on Thursday convicted and sentenced a 26-year-old man, Alloy Wisdom, to six years imprisonment, for stealing items worth N6,931,890.

The convict committed the offence between year 2020 to June 17, 2022 within Ondo City and its environs in the Ondo West Magisterial District.

The convict was alleged to have unlawfully conspired with others at large to commit felony to burgle and steal, using iron bar to break into shops during any operation.

The prosecutor, Supol Bernard Olagbayi , told the court that the convict stole items worth N6,931,890, belonging to eight persons without their consent.

The offence contravenes Sections 516 and 413(1)(2) of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The convict pleaded guilty to the charge leveled against him.

Following the guilty plea, the defendant who was not legally represented, prayed the court to temper justice with mercy in sentencing him, promising to desist from any further criminal act.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, however, sentenced the convict to six years imprisonment without an option of fine, due to the magnitude of the offence.
