The Ondo State Chairman of the All Progressives Congress  APC, Mr Ade Adetimehin has described the judiciary as the lasthope of the common man in any democratic society.

In a phone interview with The Hope, while reacting to the jugdment of the State High Court that nullified the election of the Lawmaker-elect representing Okitipupa constituency 2, he noted that the court’s ruling will strengthen democracy.

The court Presided by Justice Bode Adegbehingbe had last week sacked Mr Sina Akinwumi, saying he was not eligible to contest the House of Assembly election for Okitipupa Constituency 2 as the candidate of the APC because he did not win the primary election conducted by the party.

It however declared Mr James Ololade-Gbegudu as the winner of the primary election after he sought an order to compel the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission to recognise him as the authentic candidate of the party.

He told the court that he won the direct primary election conducted by the party in the constituency on October 5, 2018 with 4,000 votes.

According to him, the jugdment, delivered by Justice Bode Adegbehingbe is to strengthen democracy, noting that in a democratic system the rule of law should always prevail.

He noted that the decision of the court ordering INEC to withdraw Certificates of Return from some Lawmakers-elect based on faulty primary elections, corroborated the saying that judiciary is the last hope of the common man.

Adetimehin said that the development will give room for people to participate in politics without fear of intimidation or favour.

“This is to strengthen democracy and ensure that the  rule of law prevail in any democratic society, nobody has the power to do what is not right and the moment there is a little hitch within the system, it is the duty of the judiciary to right the wrong.

” In essence, nobody has absolute power, either a political party or the government, judiciary is there to adjudicate it encourages room for people to contest and practice politics”, he said.
