Court orders man to cater for son’s welfare

By Vivian Deladem

An Akure Magistrate Court has ordered one Adekunle Adebusiru to assume full responsibility for the welfare of his son, following a petition filed by the child’s mother, Ifedayo.

The court, presided over by Magistrate Grace Alphonso, gave the ruling after careful consideration of the facts presented by both parties.

The petitioner, Ifedayo, had on May 29, 2025, approached the court, seeking an order compelling Adebusiru to provide for their son’s upkeep and to secure accommodation for her and the child.

In her testimony, Ifedayo narrated how their relationship deteriorated after her return from Libya.

She disclosed that Adebusiru, who claimed to be a car dealer, had initially provided support, including funds for food.

However, she said the financial support stopped abruptly, with the money being redirected to his brother.

In defence, Adebusiru alleged that he withdrew support due to Ifedayo’s conduct, accusing her of threatening him and being in possession of fetish items.

He said he decided to take her and the child to her parents, insisting that he no longer wished to continue the relationship.

Delivering judgement, Magistrate Alphonso ruled that Adebusiru should pay the sum of ₦40,000 monthly for the child’s upkeep, provide ₦150,000 for accommodation, and take full responsibility for the child’s educational and medical needs.

The court also directed that all of Ifedayo’s belongings in Adebusiru’s possession be returned to her without delay.

Additionally, the magistrate granted Adebusiru access to the child, provided he gives prior notice before any visit.

The case was adjourned to August 12, 2025, for further proceedings.
