In a bid to curb the rate of divorce in the society, the Grade A Customary Court sitting in Akure, has advised an estranged couple to consider the possibility of settlement by seeking the intervention of their family members.
The President of the court, Mr. Akinleye Akinseye, who recommended amicable settlement for the couple, advised that their families should do everything possible to intervene in the issue so as to save the union.
Akinseye, therefore, adjourned the case till September 30, 2019 for a report of settlement or hearing of the matter.
The Hope Metro learnt that the plaintiff, one middle-aged woman, Kehinde Odunsoro, had earlier approached the court on August 21, 2019, seeking the dissolution of her 6-year-old association with her estranged husband, Omoniyi Odunsoro, on grounds of constant beating with dangerous weapons and the habit of vandalizing her property.
At the resumed sitting, the plaintiff, Kehinde, came with a member of her family, as directed by the court.
But the man, Mr. Adekunle Adeyeye, who claimed to be an elder brother of the plaintiff, told the court that the rift needed no settlement since the defendant, Omoniyi Odunsoro, has failed to recognize his authority as a father representative nor yielded to his advice before being subpoened by the court.
However, the representative from the defendant’s family, a middle-aged man, who did not disclose his name, told the court that there might be possibility for settlement, if there is an opportunity for a proper meeting.
The Hope Metro learnt that the union is blessed with two children, ages 5 and 2 (names withheld), while the couple had been separated since August, 2019.
It was also learnt that the defendant, Omoniyi Odusoro, had denied all the claims against him during their first appearance in court and had also accused the plaintiff, Kehinde, of infidelity.
