Court remands 13 over theft, robbery

No fewer than thirteen men have been remanded in Owo Correctional Centre by an Akure Chief Magistrate’s Court for armed robbery, aiding and abetting, car stealing among others.
The suspects are: Yusuf Ibrahim 32, Ojo kayode 55 Tunbosun Ojo, 42yrs, Ismaila ojo 25yrs, Ola Adegbite 42, Yahya Lasisi, 20, Thompson Lawrence, 37, and Nureedeen Adulkareem.
Others are; Bamidele Francis, 55, Sunday Daudu, 25, Tayo Adewale, 23, Olubodun Fatoye, 41,
The accused persons were charged with fifteen counts bordering on armed robbery and stealing among others.
They were alleged to have committed the offence between the months of November 2019, December 2019 and January, February, March and April, 2020 respectively in Akure metropolls.
The police prosecuting counsel, Mr. Tolu Abisagbo, told the court that the accused persons conspired among themselves and unlawfully had in possession, some dangerous weapons which include; a cut to size barrel guns, locally made pistol and other dangerous weapons to rob innocent people of the State of their cash and cars.
He further told the court that the accused persons unlawfully robbed about fifteen persons and others within the mentioned dates and at different times.
Abisagbo saidñ the accused persons robbed one Ogunmola Benson of his properties valued not yet known and cash of N197,000 , and also one Olaoye Oyeyemi, of one barrel gun, with cash of N413,000, and one Toyota Camry Big Daddy car and sundry documents.
He added that the accused persons also robbed one Davies Folorunsho of his Lexus ES 350 car valued at N3,200million, two laptops, a set of home theatre, three mobile phones, International passport and Original vehicle documents.
According to the prosecutor, Aliu Isiaka was also robbed of his Nissan External Jeep. One and woman, Folashade Adekuebi of her black Highlander Jeep, valued at about N600,000.00, Samsung Note 8 handset value at N280,000 and cash sum of N250, 250.
Also one Okonkwo Sylvester Austin was robbed of his 2013 Toyota Muzzle Camry car valued N 4, 000,000.00. and one Goodluck Bread Bakery, also robbed with cash sum of N1, 500,000.00, two Laptops and five android phones.
The Prosecution also listed some other victims Alhaji Adeleke, Alhaji Jimoh Iyiola, Oloruntola Jumoke, Oluyori David Sunday and one Kayode Ojo, were robbed of their cash worth millions of naira and some vehicles.
One Olubodun Fatoye, was said to have been supplying the accused persons ammunitions and other weapons.
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the offence preferred against them.
The offence committed was contrary to and punishable under Sections 1, 2 (a)&(b), 5, 6 (a), (b) & (c) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap RII Law of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.
Defence Counsel, Fẹmi Akintoye with two others lawyers made an oral application for the bail of their clients in most liberal term, saying that the offence against them are bailable.
The prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the defence counsel on the ground that they would jump bail, considering the overwhelming evidence the police have against them.
He said the accused persons knew the gravity and punishment of the offences committed as one of them confesses to the allegations leveled against them
In his ruling, Chief Magistrate Oyedele ordered the remand of the accused persons at Owo correctional centre.
She adjourned the case till December 3, 2020 for trials.
