Court remands 15-yr-old student for assaulting teachers

A 15-year-old boy, Omolayo Olowoniyi has been arraigned before an Odigbo Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.

The defendant was brought before Senior Magistrate D. O Ogunfuyi on two counts bothering on assault

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on May 24, 2023 at about 03:30pm at Alagbado Village in Ore, Ondo State.

The prosecutor, Inspector Usifo James informed the court that the accused and others now at large did armed themselves with dangerous weapons such as bottle, sticks, cutlass and attacked the following people: Olafusi Olamiposi, Olabisi Micheal, Akintoye Olajide and Abiwo Adekunle being teaching practice students of Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo attached to Our Saviour Comprehensive College, Alagbado, inflicted them injuries all over their bodies.

The offence contravenes Sections 516, 383 (1) of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Volume. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence levelled against him

Usifo prayed for an adjournment to enable him study the case file and gather his witnesses for trial.

The defence counsel led by V. A Akinfe did not oppose the application made by the prosecutor, but prayed the court to grant the accused person bail on most liberal terms.

The prosecutor opposed the bail application made by the defense counsel, saying, the defendant would abuse the privilege, if eventually granted,

In his ruling, Senior Magistrate Ogunfuyi ordered the defendant to be remanded at the Okitipupa Correctional Centre.

He adjourned the case till June 22, 2023 for bail consideration.
