Court remands driver for stabbing colleague to death

A middle-age man, Dayo Idowu, who allegedly stabbed a driver to death in Akure, has been remanded at Olokuta Correctional Service Centre by an Akure Magistrate Court sitting at Oke-Eda.

Idowu was dragged before the court by the police for unlawfully stabbing one Shehu Saka with broken bottle on his stomach which led to his death.

According to the prosecution, the defendant committed the offence on December 16, 2019 at about 7am at Onyearugbulem area, Akure, in the Akure Magisterial District.

The alleged offence contravened sections 316 and 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria,  2006.

The plea of the defendant was not taken, when the charge was read to him.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Uloh Goodluck, applied for the remand of the defendant at the Olokuta Correctional Service Centre, pending  advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

Lawyer representing the defendant, Mr. Omotayo Omoedu, urged the court to order that the defendant be returned back to the police clinic due to his health challenges.

He said the defendant was discharged from the clinic just to appear in court.

Magistrate Charity Adeyanju, ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Correctional Service Centre, pending the issuance of the legal advice from the DPP’s office.

Adeyanju, directed that the Olokuta medical centre should take care of the defendant, health wise.

The case was adjourned till March 6, 2020.
