Court remands driver over stolen car

A 30-year-old driver, Muri Yusuf, has been remanded by an Akure Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla car.

Yusuf who was alleged  of stealing the car valued at N1million, committed the offence on April 18, 2023 along Sijuade, Hospital Road, Akure.

The car, it was learnt, belongs to one Ayewunmi Babatunde.

The police prosecutor, Augustine Omhenemhen informed the court that the defendant stole a Toyota Corolla Car with number plate: SSE21AA, engine no:07062614E, Chassis no: JT164EEA107025352 custom color valued at N1million.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence which contravenes Section 383 and punishable under Section 390(6) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

Omhenemhen said he would call three witnesses to testify in the case, and applied for a date to enable him study the case file.

Lawyer for the defendant, A.A Ornu. applied for the bail of his client in most liberal terms.

The presiding Magistrate, O.R Yakubu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1million with one surety in like sum.

She said the surety must be one of the drivers in Owo garage.

The defendant who could not perfect his bail, was remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure.

The case was adjourned till May 9, 2023 for hearing.
