An Akure Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 28-year old man, Solomon Shina, for allegedly impersonating a soldier to steal a white Toyota Hilux.

The prosecution told the court that Shina committed the offence between January 23 and 24, 2025, at Oda Road, Akure, Ondo State.

According to the prosecuting counsel, Tope Gbadebo, the suspect paraded himself as a military officer and stole a White Toyota Hilux with number plate 08E 016 OD, property of the Idanre Local Government Primary Health Care Development Authority. The vehicle was assigned to Dr Ojo Olumuyiwa, the coordinator of primary health care in the area.

The prosecution stated that the offence contravened Sections 383(1) and (2) and 517 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Volume 1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006, and is punishable under Section 390 of the same law, but Shina pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor applied for his remand and requested time to study the case file.

Defence counsel, T.E. Menowonu, did not oppose the remand application. But he prayed the court to grant his client bail, promising that he would not jump bail and would provide credible sureties.

Presiding Magistrate, Damilola Sekoni, granted Shina bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. The sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, provide an affidavit of means, submit two passport photographs, and own landed property.

However, Shina failed to meet the bail conditions and was remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure.

The case was adjourned to February 19, for hearing.
