Court remands LG staff, over alleged assault

A 38-year-old Local government staff, Oduwole Oladipupo, has been remanded by an Akure Magistrates’ Court over alleged assault.

The defendant, a resident of Akure is standing trial on a four -count charge bothering on assault and threat to kill. But he pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Martins Olowofeso told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 10, 2023 at about 12:15pm opposite Orange FM in Shagari Village, Akure.

Olowofeso alleged that the defendant assaulted one Ayodeji Babalola by holding his neck and forcefully hit his forehead on the ground, which made him sustain deep cut injury.

He said the defendant also threatened that he would set a Shopping Complex in Shagari on fire, property of covenant Parish Church Shagari Village lrese Road, Akure.

The prosecutor said the defendant also threatened to kill one Abayomi Omolade.

He said the offence committed is contrary to and punishable under Section 525, 86(1)of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The police prosecutor said he would call seven witnesses to testify in the case, hence he applied for a date to go through the case file for proper prosecution.

The defense counsel, O.J ljoe, prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms, promising to provide reliably sureties.

In his ruling, Magistrate R.A Olumilua, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The defendant couldn’t perfect his bail and was remanded at Olokuta Correctional Centre, Akure.

She, however, adjourned the case till March 27, 2023 for hearing.
