Court remands lover-boy over fraud

An Akure Magistrates’ Court has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old man Akeem Bello, over allegedly defrauding his overseas girlfriend of N2m.
Akeem was brought to court on two counts of fraud and obtaining by false pretence
The defendant allegedly committed the offence between March and December 2020 in Akure.
The prosecutor, Inspector A. Ajeniwa told the court that the defendant has been dating the victim, Olaotan Oladapo since 2018.
Bello was alleged to have defrauded the victim of the sum of N2millon through his GTB account No. 0131021883 and Western Union Transfer.
He said defendant has started defrauding the victim since 2020 by converting the money she sends from overseas to his personal use.
The prosecutor alleged that the defendant used the money gotten from his girlfriend to marry another lady.
Ajeniwa told the court that series of abortions done by the victim for the defendant had damaged her womb.
The offence contravene Section 383 and 421,390 (b and c) of the Criminal Code Cap. 37. Vol. 1, Laws of Ondo State,2006.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The defense counsel, N.J Okolike prayed the court to grant his client bail.
The prosecutor who opposed the bail application prayed the court to remand the defendant.
In his ruling, Magistrate C.M Akinwumi ordered the remand of the defendant at Olokuta Custodial Centre.
He, thereafter adjourned the case till November 2, 2022 for further hearing.
